At this stage in my dating career, I thought I had heard every plausible, lame excuse for ending a relationship.
“I don’t see this as working.”
Yup, heard it. Many times, in fact.
“It’s not you, it’s me.”
Standard line, but I appreciate the intent to be kind and gentle.
“I need to focus on my career.”
In today’s economy who doesn’t?
But recently someone superseded the ridiculous and unloaded the granddaddy of reasons for a breakup: “You watch Oprah.”

When “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actress Cheryl Hines tied the knot with Robert Kennedy Junior earlier this month I couldn’t help but wonder why she opted for the aisle walk instead of the safer bet of shacking up, especially considering this was her second and his third marriage. After all, it’s not easy being a female in the political family. Kennedy women–from Rose to Jackie, and even Maria Shriver–have had to stoically endure not only tragedies, but personal humiliations.

I had just returned from a week of yoga and mediation at Kripalu in the Berkshires and feeling limber and clear-headed.
“New family rule!” I announced to Savannah, my 8-year-old, at breakfast. “From now on Friday is gonna be our ‘Family Gratitude and Appreciation Dinner.’”
